Not sold in Australia – import only
The Meta Ray-Ban Display is not sold in Australia. It launched in the US at US$799 (including the Meta Neural Band) in September 2025, and at Meta Connect 2026 the Display expanded to the UK, Canada, Germany, France and Italy. Australia was not included. If you want one, you are importing it. There is no AU retailer, no local stock, and no Australian warranty path.
That is the single most important fact in this guide. Everything else – the specs, the import maths, the alternatives – flows from it. Meta has now had two expansion waves (the US launch and the Connect 2026 five-country rollout) and Australia missed both. Do not hold your breath for a local launch.
What it is: the first display glasses
The Display is the first consumer glasses with a full-colour display: a 600×600 panel reaching up to 5,000 nits at 90Hz, embedded in the right lens only. It is not a VR headset or an AR overlay across your whole vision. It is a discreet display in one lens, designed for glanceable information.
The Meta Neural Band – an EMG wristband that reads pinch and scroll gestures from your wrist muscles – comes in the $799 box. It is the control system: pinch to select, scroll through interfaces, without touching the glasses. There is also a 12MP ultra-wide camera with 3x zoom, a six-microphone array, open-ear speakers, around 6 hours of battery (plus 30 hours via the charging case), and it weighs about 69g.
Two caveats before you get excited. First, US purchase friction is real: units are sold in-store only with a mandatory demo appointment (per Big Apple Buddy). You cannot just click and buy, even in America. Second, do not assume Meta AI or Neural Band features fully work in Australia. That is unverified, and imported units have no Australian warranty path if anything goes wrong.
Import cost breakdown: about AUD 1,400 landed
Using a forwarding service like Big Apple Buddy, the landed estimate is approximately AUD 1,355 to 1,410. That is their estimate, built as follows: US$799 is about AUD 1,135, plus 10% GST, plus about AUD 50 import processing, plus international shipping, with zero customs duty under the Australia-US Free Trade Agreement (AUSFTA).
No one else in Australia is publishing a full import-cost breakdown for this product. Most coverage stops at “not available in AU” without telling you what importing actually costs. Now you know: budget around AUD 1,400 landed, and remember that covers the hardware only, not the risk of having no local support.
The AU alternative: Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3
Before you pay about AUD 1,400 to import, consider the Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 at US$449. No display, no Neural Band, but the Gen 2 already sells in Australia at JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, Sunglass Hut and OPSM, with local stock, local pricing and local warranty. If you mainly want the camera, the microphones and the Meta AI glasses experience, the AU-available model is the sane buy.
The decision guide is simple. If the in-lens display is the whole point for you, if you are buying specifically for the 600×600 panel and Neural Band gestures, then only the import gets you there. But if you want smart glasses for photos, video, calls and Meta AI, the Gen 3 (or the AU-available Gen 2) delivers most of the experience at a fraction of the landed cost, with none of the warranty risk. Where to buy (import only)
There is no AU retailer. Import via a forwarding service such as Big Apple Buddy. Expect about AUD 1,355 to 1,410 landed, and note the in-store-only purchase requirement with mandatory demo appointment in the US.
Our verdict
Too early to tell. Import only if you are desperate. About AUD 1,400 landed with no local warranty is a lot for first-generation display hardware, and display-less Meta glasses already retail in Australia with full local support. For most people, the smart move is the AU-available Gen 3.
