Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact Australia: the $549 quiet air purifier
Note: ‘HushJet’ is a product family — it also includes the $169 HushJet Mini Cool handheld fan. This page covers the HushJet Purifier Compact (HJ10), Dyson’s quiet compact air purifier.
The short version: The Dyson HushJet Australia release is here — the HushJet Purifier Compact (HJ10) is available now for $549 RRP — a compact purifier built around Dyson’s HushJet air projection, engineered for quiet operation (Dyson says Sleep mode purifies at just 24dB). It covers rooms up to 100m², with an electrostatic filter that captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns and an activated carbon filter for odours and gases. It’s in stock now at Dyson.com.au, The Good Guys, David Jones and Joyce Mayne. We haven’t tested it, so treat the noise and performance claims as marketing until proven.

The Dyson HushJet Australia price of $549 sits at the top of the compact purifier market — Philips, Xiaomi and Winix all make competent purifiers for $300–$500. The HushJet premium buys Dyson’s HushJet air-projection design, the quiet-at-24dB Sleep mode pitch, and the Dyson badge on your bedroom floor.

What is the Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact?
A compact air purifier — not a fan. The “HushJet” name refers to Dyson’s HushJet air projection: a design inspired by jet engines that is meant to deliver powerful airflow quietly. The headline feature is acoustic: Dyson describes it as “quiet as a whisper, even at full power”, with a Sleep mode engineered to purify at just 24dB — aimed squarely at bedrooms and home offices where existing purifiers are too loud to run overnight.
Underneath, it’s a full purifier: an electrostatic filter that captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns (allergens, mould), an activated carbon filter for pet and cooking odours and gases such as NO2, and a fully sealed machine so captured pollutants aren’t released back into the room. Dyson says it covers rooms up to 100m², with PM2.5 particle sensing that adapts automatically and MyDyson app connectivity.
Don’t confuse it with the $169 HushJet Mini Cool — a handheld fan in the same family. The Purifier Compact (HJ10) is the purifier; the Mini Cool is the pocket fan.
Dyson HushJet Australia: key features
- HushJet air projection — powerful airflow engineered for quiet operation (24dB in Sleep mode, per Dyson)
- Electrostatic filter captures 99.97% of 0.3-micron particles (allergens, mould)
- Activated carbon filter for odours and gases such as NO2
- Covers rooms up to 100m², with PM2.5 sensing and automatic mode
- MyDyson app connectivity
- RRP $549 AUD
Note: Dyson’s decibel and coverage figures are manufacturer claims — the noise claim in particular needs independent testing. We’ll update when real measurements exist.
What’s new here
Dyson has made purifiers for years (the Purifier Cool and Big+Quiet ranges). The HushJet’s angle is acoustic engineering as the headline feature rather than an afterthought, in a genuinely compact form factor — no cooling-fan function, no tower footprint.
The competitive set: Philips, Winix and Xiaomi all make competent purifiers for $300–$500. The HushJet’s pitch is quiet-first operation at a $549 price point. Whether the acoustic engineering justifies the premium is the entire question.
Who it’s for (and who should skip it)
Consider it if: you’re a light sleeper who wants overnight purification, you have allergies or asthma, or you want a compact purifier that won’t dominate a bedroom.
Skip it if: you just want clean air on a budget ($300–$500 buys excellent purifiers from Philips, Xiaomi or Winix), you also want a cooling-fan function (this is a purifier, not a cooler), or you specifically want formaldehyde-targeted filtration (that’s not the HJ10’s pitch).
Our verdict: is the Dyson HushJet Purifier Compact worth it?
Too early to tell. The HushJet Purifier Compact is real, it’s $549, and it’s in stock — but we haven’t tested it. The 24dB Sleep mode claim is the whole reason to buy one over a $300–$500 rival, and it needs independent verification before we can call it.
If you’re noise-sensitive and money is no object, it’s a plausible pick. For everyone else, wait for real noise measurements — or buy one of the proven budget purifiers.
Alternatives worth considering
- Philips 3000i series: the natural rival — same $549 territory, proven purification. We compare them head-to-head here.
- Xiaomi Smart Air Purifier range: the budget benchmark — HEPA filtration for a fraction of the price, but noisier and less refined.
- Dyson Big+Quiet: if you want a bigger Dyson purifier and don’t mind paying more, Dyson’s own larger quiet-range alternative.
